Next to the Big Dipper, the most familiar constellation is Orion. The three stars of Orion's belt make it easy to identify, but its outstanding quality is its brilliance. No surprise that, for Orion means light.
This anciently honored constellation was said to represent Nimrod the great hunter, leader of the rebellious builders of the Tower of Babel. That attribution was certainly stolen. How could a constellation named "Light" have any natural connection with one whose hunting was of men, whose alliances were for conquest, and whose evil religion included human sacrifice? No, Nimrod's natural sphere was one of darkness, not light.
Only one person can be honestly represented by Orion. He is the One who is light, whose coming into the world brought light to the eyes of the blind and knowledge to those in spiritual darkness, and whose coming was expected ever since man's sin in the Garden of Eden.
"In the light of the king's face is life." Proverbs 16:15
"In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." John 1:4, 5
"God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. " 1 John 1:5-7
